London, Robert Olliver and Co. c 1850. Folio with music. Pictorial colour lithograph cover of the characters and a sea battle from the Comic opera Hamet & Zelena or Stratagem for Stratagem by J.West Bass and Gesualdo Lanza and published for the composer by Robert Ollivier & Co. Lanza (1779-1859) was born in Naples and came to London to teach and to compose. I can find no record of performance however the composer invites subscribers to purchase the whole opera on the back page which list all the songs. There are three sheets in stock s and this one contains two songs. The lithographic art is by George Healey and the printing by T. Adeney. The publisher Robert Ollivier was located at that address between 1850-71 However it was licensed for a performance in Dublin by the Lord Chamberlain as follows ' Hamet and Zelena, or, Stratagem for Stratagem', a serio-comic opera in two acts. Licence sent 26 January 1854 for performance at the Theatre Royal Dublin the same day. Signed Signor Lanza, 31 Great George Street, Euston Square.Condition very good. A rare and unusual sheet. Folio size with music.
