The original 9th Battalion was one of twelve battalions constituting the 1st Australian Division which landed at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915. After the evacuation of Gallipoli eight months later history records that the Australian troops were reorganised, reinforced and sent to Egypt in defence of the Suez Canal, whence to the Western Front and augmented by new divisions, to become 1 Australian Corps. The 9th served for long periods on the Somme as well as in the northern sectors of the Western Front. This book described the men of the 9th in both war and peacetime. It has extensive Appendices and even more extensive Endnotes, photographs and maps. The Index is in two sections: (a) personnel named in the narrative, and (b) a catalogue of events and other subjects. THIS IS A 'Hard-to-Find' TITLE.
