LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

London: Efficiency Magazine, 1928. Undated, but examination of the text yields 1928-29 as the likeliest date. 130pp + adverts. Would be in very good condition but there is a 2cm horizontal tear across the spine and the front spine joint is completely split, some age spotting to edges and endpapers. Black cloth covers with embossed pattern and gilt titles. Chapters on caterpillars, how artificial silk was invented (from seventeenth century Robert Hooke through the story of John Mercer, and later inventors Swan, Cross, Bevan and Beadle and others), how it is made, story of Courtaulds and British Celanese, possibilities of the trade, list of British Makers of artificial silk machinery. A cross between a history, an exhortation (the author is very keen for businessmen to exploit the "new" trade) and a description of the current (late 1920s) state of the business.. Decorative Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
