E-Gee Printers Victoria 1985 This case bound copy is one of a limited edition and numbered 87. Hard cover dust wrapper 222pp b&w photos. Dw sunned on spine and edges. Small patch of surface lifted on front dw. Corners lightly bumped else very good. Signed by editor on imprint page. Private James Maxwell Laidlaw left Australia on the troop ship Afric on 5 January 1916 (when he commenced his diaries) with the 13th Reinforcements of the 9th Light Horse Regiment. Arriving in the Middle East he transferred to a number of units until in England where he volunteered for the Divisional Ammunition Column, 3rd Divsion, and shortly saw active service in France and Belgium during the second Battle of Messines. In August 1917 he transferred to the 50th Infantry Battalion, was again sent to the front line and saw action during the 3rd Battle of Ypres and the battles of Dernancourt and Villiers-Brettonneux. His diary ceased when he arrived home on the hospital ship China on 6 June 1919.
