London: Printed for the translator and sold by R. Griffiths, 1747. Octavo, (4), viii, 66, (1 - errata) pages. Title page dust-stained, preface has irregular margins (appears as issued by the printer), a very good copy in recent papered boards. Preliminary advertisement reads: 'As Doctor Mead intended to give a translation of his own book, he ought to have given notice of it in time, in order to prevent others from translating it, as he could not but suppose that the public would be impatient to see what he had said upon so important a subject; now the Doctor having given no such notice, it never came into my head that he had such a design, for neither Sydenham, Friend, or any body as I know of, ever translated his own works; I therefore translated the book, treated with a bookseller about it, upon which Dr. Mead put in his advertisement; this being the state of the case, I don't conceive their being anything either ungenteel to the Doctor, or dishonest to his bookseller, in publishing this translation, which I am sure I should never have undertaken, had I expected one from the author himself.' From the dedication in B58245 we learn Mead was Royal physician, fellow of College of Physicians in London and Member Royal Soc.
