The majority of the photographs, each neatly mounted on stiff board, are captioned in a fine clear hand, commencing with 'Anzac Day in London, the scene in Parliament Square as the men who fought at Gallipoli entered the Abbey.' Photographers include the renowned Frank Hurley, Alfieri (the London-based photographic gallery specialising in depicting views of Gallipoli) et al. Total 77 original b/w photographs mostly measuring approx. 195 x 143 cm., depicting Australian troops at the Western Front, inc. 9 at Gallipoli, 8 at Palestine, Australia House (London) opened by the King, the Australian Troops present arms as His Majesty arrives, etc., etc. The album is oblong 4to. In full padded black crushed morocco with bevelled boards bearing the gilt caption 'Western Front 1914-1918' on front cover. Inside gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Loosely inserted is a further original b/w photograph 21.5 x 16cm depicting an Australian Air Force squadron of officers and others (total 36 men) in front of their aircraft. An historic photographic record of Australia's role in World War I. In fine condition.
