London, United Kingdom: Methuen, 1913. Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Fairfax Moresby (1786-1877) and John Moresby (1830-1922) He was made captain in 1865 and in 1871 was sent to Australia (Sydney). Moresby spent the next three to four years traveling to places including New Zealand, Torres Strait Islands, northern Australia, New Guinea and Norfolk Island. On these journeys he carried out hydrographic surveys. Moresby was responsible for claiming New Guinea for the British and named Port Moresby and Fairfax Harbour in honour of his father. CONDITION Blue bds with bright Gilt title (not worn, bottom cnrs sl bruised) pp x 343 with a map and publishers list to rear. Bright and clean with fore edge spots, sl shaken.. 2nd Edition. Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
