LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

New York: Putnam's Sons - Knickerbocker Press, 1910. Clothbound hardcover book measuring 140x205mm with xvi, 366 pages, numerous plates in b&w and a few in colour (complete as issued). A very good copy. This book is a bit shaken, a few marks affect the front board, one plate is frayed and there is some scattered foxing. A pleasing and endearing book of tales asscoiated with the gem trade. Of particular interest is a short but pertinant chapter on opal, with a description of the role played by Queen Victoria in promoting the superior Australian product. The numerous plates throughout this book are excellent and include images of the Kimberly cut, sorting and grading of diamonds, two scale photo plates of the Cullinan diamond (raw and cut), a plate of the room and bench where the Cullinan diamond was cleaved and much more
