London, Robert Cocks. 1865. With a full colour lithograph portrait by S. Rosenthal of the heroine of the song. The composer Alphonse Leduc(1804-68) wrote the very famous song Jenny of the Mill. He was born in Nantes and wrote a very considerable number of dance tunes and also composed for the organ and the bassoon. The lyricist is George Linley (1798-1865). Originally born in Leeds and moved to London as young man. He wrote some of the most popular drawing room lyrics of the mid 19th century-Ever of Love ofThee,I cannot mind my Wheel,mother.He wrote several operas between 1850-65 and later books of Nursery Rhymes and Hymn Tunes. The song was sung by Madame Helene Lemmens Sherrington(1834-1906) considered by some to be the finest English born soprano of the middle Victorian period. Folio size with music. Small piece missing from bottom up along spine not really affecting else condition VG.
