Manchester: The Two Worlds" Publishing Co, 1901. Vindex Veri is a pseudonym for an unknown author. Associated with Emma Hardinge Britten (1823-1899), founder of the Theosophical Society and the Two Worlds Publishing Company. She was also a renowned and respected advocate and proponent of the early Modern Spiritualist Movement. Her dream of establishing a formal 'school of prophets' (training school for mediums) was realised after her death. This book is a collection of little-known facts concerning the foundations of religious systems, especially the Christian school of thought. Topics include seers, prophets and prophecy, holy sites, idolatry, traditions from Ancient Egypt and India, and sacred numbers. Book is in Fair condition. Embossed boards depict the Linga-Yoni symbol from Ancient India. Boards are quite worn, particularly at edges, and are bound together with cloth at the spine. Previous owner's name and stamp on front free endpaper. Book itself is in excellent reading condition. Hinges are a little loose, though pages remain quite firmly bound. Very occasional pencil marks to margins of a few pages, and some foxing throughout. Features some illustrations and tables. An excellent copy of this scarce title.
