Melbourne: Invincible Press, 1949. 500 grammes; 262 pages, last blank, list of illustrations. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece showing Marjorie Lawrence riding a horse. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography. Blue coloured boards with gilt writing on the front panel along with small gilt illustration and gilt writing on the spine as well. Bumping, rubbing and fraying to the head and to the heel of spine and bumping to the book corners. The first 0.25 " of the spine head and heel has become completely faded, commensurate with loss of dustwapper. Fading has also occurred to the extreme edges of the front panel and to the lower edges of the back panel. Heavy shelfwear to the lower book edges and some bumping to the top book edges. The spine is cocked. Browning to the paper edges and to the internal pages. Handling marks to the endpapers along with previous owner's name to the top edge of the front paste down. The full length of the front ends has small puncture marks evenly spaced. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a Marjorie Lawrence singing while sitting down, with blue, white and black writing on the front panel. The dustwrapper is in component parts -- the spine is completely missing. The rest of the dustwrapper is almost indescribably bad. The corners of the dustwrapper are missing and their multiple tears nicks and chips to both the top and bottom dustwrapper edges both the front and back fold over panels had become detached at some stage and had been reattached with tape, tape still in situ. The remaining part of the dustwrapper are rubbed, faded and quite grubby. The remains of tape can also be seen on the remnants of the spine area of the dustwrapper. The autobiography of Marjorie Lawrence, an Australian opera singer of the 1930s he specialised in Wagnerian roles, who at the height of her career was struck down by polio. With the help of Sister Kenny she made a remarkable comeback to the operatic stage. Digital image available upon request.. First Australian Edition -- Stated. Blue Cloth. Ordinary/Atrocious.
