London: The Bodley Head, 1954. 208pp. Orange coloured boards with black writing on the spine. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and shelfware is evident to the lower edges of the book. Browning, dust marks and foxing noticeable to the paper edges. Offset tanning noticeable to the endpapers and previous owner's name to the top right-hand corner of the front paste down. Foxing to the first and last few pages of the book and occasional spot to the internal pages. Pages 181 through to end of book is slightly out of plum with the rest of the book block, pages are not loose but they are slightly misaligned. Illustrated dust wrapper, showing a young girl in its very old-fashioned nursing outfit, with purple background and white and yellow writing on front panel and spine. Dust wrapper is heavily rubbed and faded, particularly on the fold over creatures and spine. Chipping to the dust wrapper corners with loss. The head and heel of the spine, with loss. Grubby marks and other marks a present as well. There is a transverse tear which runs the full width of the spine. Dust wrapper is priced clipped, front fold over, lower righthand corner.
