This is the 2nd edition of Lange's classic History of Materialism, complete in 3 volumes; Vol I (1879) covers the early Greek world of the atomists, with emphasis on Democritus, the Sophists, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, Epikuros, Lucretius; Vol II (1880) is essentially devoted to Kant; Vol III (1881) covers aspects of modern science, ethics and religion; trans. Ernest Chester Thomas; a beautiful set, each vol is bound in light blue cloth bds w/ decorative motif to front w/ bust of a philosopher embossed in gilt; all vols are VG+ thru w/ occasional pg folded at cnr; pgs are uncut; bds are lightly rubbed w/ some light wear head & foot of spines (vol I has a short split in cloth rear spine), and along edges of spine; overall a handsome set in Vg cond; as this is a three vol set there may be some extra costs involved in postage; please inquire.
