New York: Random House, 1976. 406pp., author's note, notes. 1/4 black cloth spine and 3/4 red boards with silver embossed initials of author on front panel and silver writing on the spine. Shelfware evident to the bottom edges of the book, and there is scuffing to the boards. Dust marks and browning to the top paper edge and foxing to the rest. Previous owners stamp on the ffep. Some handling marks internally. Plain text dustwrapper, with white background and red and black writing on the front panel and black on the spine. The dustwrapper is grubby, particularly noticeable on the spine. Foxing is noticeable on the verso side of the dustwrapper, along with bleeding of the colour of the book panels and a stain running along the full length of the rear fold over crease. Staining to the rear dustwrapper panel another various marks are also present. The author, who covered the war in Indochina for the New York Times, writes about the cost of this conflict in terms of the ordinary person; both from the soldiers point of view, parents and loved ones and the South Vietnamese people..
